· Interpretation of marine paleoenvironments during the Jurassic, Cretaceous and Paleogene using microfossils (foraminifers, calcareous dinocysts) as well as analyses of microfacies and geochemical indices.

· Stratigraphic analyses of Jurassic, Cretaceous and Paleogene sedimentary rocks which are based on foraminiferal assemblages, calcareous dinocysts and calcareous nanoplankton, as well as using analyses of stable carbon isotopes (δ13C).

· Interpretation of the genesis of igneous and metamorphic rocks in selected areas and the origin of mineral components in sedimentary rocks which are based on petrographic, mineralogical and geochemical analyses.

· Polar studies on the variability of temperature and thickness of permafrost active layer at the coastal sides at Svalbard and the morphology of periglacial mountain slopes in relation to ongoing global warming.
