Chair of Ecology and Environmental Protection

Research area:

  • Ecology of insect populations, pests of stored grains and food products. Laboratory studies of plant chemicals as potential repellents, attractants or antifeedants of stored insects.

Contact person: Małgorzata Kłyś malgorzata.klys@up.krakow.pl

Keywords: insect pests, plant repellents

  • Reintroduction of capercaillie and black grouse; Forest grouse breeding techniques for reintroduction programs; Wildlife population monitoring; Human animal conflict – causes, effects, prevention.

Contact person: Dorota Merta dorota.merta@uken.krakow.pl

Keywords: threats to and conservation of biodiversity; wildlife population dynamics

  • Work in the field of soil ecology, focused on changes in the quantitative, qualitative and trophic structure of soil fauna communities in natural and anthropogenic environments. The research also covers the impact of natural and anthropogenic factors, including heavy metals, on soil invertebrates and the assessment of soil condition based on pedofauna communities as bioindicators.

Contact person: Anna Chrzan anna.chrzan@uken.krakow.pl

Keywords: soil ecology, biomonitoring of soil environment, diversity of soil fauna, trophic structure

  • Food habits of wild animals (otter). The impact of otters on wild and farmed fish populations. The presence of alien animal species in the fauna of Poland. Number, distribution and population dynamics of game and protected animal species. Assessment of the quality of the habitat of wild animals.

Contact person: Lidia Orłowska lidia.orlowska@uken.krakow.pl

Keywords: wild animals protected, alien species, occurrence, numbers, diet

  • Research studies focus on the spatial differentiation of heavy metals in the soils and plants of roadside areas and ecologically valuable areas, including mountainous regions.

Contact person: Joanna Korzeniowska joanna.korzeniowska@uken.krakow.pl

Keywords: heavy metals, roadside plants

  • The research includes analysis of thermodynamic and kinematic conditions of the development of nocturnal thunderstorms in Poland and Central Europe, as well as air pollution with suspended dust and long-distance transport of dust, including particles originating from Sahara.

Contact person: Bartłomiej Pietras bartlomiej.pietras@uken.krakow.pl

Keywords: nocturnal thunderstorms, convective weather, Saharan dust transport

  • Experimental work on the influence of red and green light on the absorption of trace elements by plants, including selenium.

Contact person: Bartosz Różanowski bartosz.rozanowski@uken.krakow.pl

Keywords: race elements, red and green light, crop plants
